1.    Why should I join Delta Sigma Pi? What can Delta Sigma Pi add to my college experience?

Delta Sigma Pi will add immeasurable benefits to your collegiate experience. The professional skills such as public speaking, working in teams, interviewing, and networking are certainly of ever increasing value, but Delta Sigma Pi provides its members with access to 50 of the most well-rounded and diverse students at Purdue. These members will share their life experiences, both personal and professional, and create ever-lasting friendships within the organization. Delta Sigma Pi simply isn’t a student organization; it is a transformative experience. Joining a well-rounded organization like Delta Sigma Pi will enhance your college experience with opportunities that you often won’t encounter in a classroom environment.

2.    What is the difference between a social fraternity and a professional fraternity?

A professional fraternity is co-ed, and is made up of people from a particular subject area, which in our case, is business. Although Delta Sigma Pi has a very strong social aspect, the primary focus of our events is the business world and professional development. Unlike most social fraternities, we do not live in a house.

3.    What differentiates Delta Sigma Pi from other organizations on campus? How is Delta Sigma Pi involved on campus?

Delta Sigma Pi is different from other organizations on campus in that it doesn’t have a singular focus. Many student organizations have a particular mission like community service or professional development. Delta Sigma Pi combines professionalism, community service, skill development, financial management, marketing, and brotherhood into one, co-ed organization. We are also different in that we are a group of well-rounded individuals. Our members are intelligent, professional, fun-loving, and supportive. Delta Sigma Pi is extremely involved on campus. Most recently, we hosted a 5K run with Colleges against Cancer to promote Relay for Life. This was our first joint race and it was a success with 25 runners, sponsored by All Sport and many businesses graciously donated prizes for the runners who helped make this a success. DSP also has a team that walks in Relay for Life every year, and a few years ago the chapter also put on a Dress for Success fashion show for Haiti and raised close to $2000. Some other events that we have done in the past are the Food Crawl during Management Week, Tennis Tournaments, and Intramurals for the brothers.

5.    What is the application process?

We have 2-3 callouts at the start of each semester. If you are interested in joining Delta Sigma Pi, it is highly encouraged that you attend one of these callouts to learn more about us and meet some of our members. The application form is available online and at the callouts. In the weeks following the callouts, we host a few recruiting events which give you a chance to meet our members in an informal setting, have fun, and ask any questions you may have about Delta Sigma Pi. Once applications have been turned in, we grant interviews to candidates that we feel would be a good fit for Delta Sigma Pi.

6.    What type of students does Delta Sigma Pi look for?

Delta Sigma Pi seeks students who aim to succeed in all areas of their lives. We look for well-rounded members who strive to develop themselves both personally and professionally. Delta Sigma Pi looks specifically for those who recognize our organization as something bigger than one individual or one purpose, and we work hard to develop members from there. We want those who are able to recognize that committing to this organization will give you the opportunity to drastically improve yourself, your brothers, Purdue, and the Greater Lafayette Community. Members of Delta Sigma Pi demonstrate strong academic performance, leadership potential, and a desire to serve others.

7.    What is the pledging process like? What is the time commitment for this program?

The pledge process is an intensive seven-week program, where your pledge class will operate as a mini organization, where you will elect officer positions for the pledge class, and plan events similar to those we do throughout semester. This includes a professional event, community service event, social event, and fundraisers to help fund these events. In addition, you will attend weekly meetings and take quizzes on our fraternity history. The time commitment is significant but very manageable. Time management is crucial throughout the pledge process.

8.    How should I prepare myself for the interview?

Interviews are conducted in a behavioral style. If you do not have any experience with behavioral interviews, the Krannert Career Services office and the Center for Career Opportunities are campus resources that can give you tips and also conduct mock interviews.

9.    What kinds of leadership opportunities are available within Delta Sigma Pi?

Delta Sigma Pi provides a multitude of leadership opportunities that are incomparable to any other organization in the Krannert School of Management. With 12 officer positions, we have a wide range of positions covering just about any interest you might have, from marketing to finance to social. As an officer, you are able to build and strengthen essential leadership skills such as providing motivation, delegating and holding others responsible to tasks, giving and receiving feedback and carrying out the vision you set for your position. All members are allowed and encouraged to run for officer positions, regardless of how long you have been involved in Delta Sigma Pi. In addition, each member serves on a committee, where you may have the opportunity to step into a leadership role and even plan your own event.

10.    How can Delta Sigma Pi benefit you after college?

The professional skills you develop and friendships you form in Delta Sigma Pi will benefit you the rest of your life. Being a Deltasig is something that employers look highly on, and many companies even seek out or give preference to Deltasigs for open positions. The relationships you form will give you a group of great friends for years to come and create networking opportunities that will help you advance your career. With over 226,000 brothers initiated since its founding, you will continually meet new brothers as you move into a full time job.
The founding class of the Kappa Omega chapter here at Purdue still comes back every year for a football game.
